 Note: Answer any five of the following questions. All questions carry equal marks. 

 1. Comment on the importance of the English writings of Raja Rammohun Roy in the history of Indian English writings coming out of the subcontinent of India.

 2. Explain the processes by which English gained support and consolidation in post-Independent India. 

 3. What is clause? What are different types of clauses? Give examples. 

 4. Explain the processes of evolution of English as a world language. 

 5. What is the difference between the positions taken by Leavis and Lewis with respect to English Literature? 

 6. Write a critical note on Tagore's role as a writer in the early twentieth century Indian context. 

 7. Examine the issue and problems in the construction of feminist canon of Indian English writing.

 8. How does Said define Orientalism? Why does he offer more than one definition?
