ROAD SAFETY 

 The term road safety is an indication of how safe individual users are on some particular road, or on the roads belonging to some region or state. The main danger to road us is the likelihood of a traffic collision. Such dangers can be reduced by individual road users operating cautiously and defensively. Road traffic crashes are one of the world's largest public health and injury prevention problems. The problem is all the more acute because the victims are overwhelmingly healthy prior to their crashes. According to the World Health Organization, more than a million people are killed on the world's roads. A child is killed in an accident every three minutes. This being the scenario of accidents and dangers on the roads, road safety is a very important aspect of life on the roads of cities and small towns or highways. The present age is an age of speed and hurry. We have to reach school in time. We are likely to rush to our school bus and be unmindful about our own safety on the road. For an office - gore also, time is a tyrant. He has to be punctual. In his hurry to catch the bus, the office - gore may not be able to take care of his own safety. We often hear it said that speed thrills but it also kills. It is better to be late than never or reaching our destination disabled or crippled by not caring for safety on the roads our drivers are often rash while driving. They often try to overtake a bus or car going ahead of them.

 In the excitement of overtaking they increase the speed of their own vehicle. This often lands us into trouble. We should drive carefully on roads. We should not start showing anger on roads. This kind of road rage on roads endangers the safety of others. We should pay special attention to the safety and conveniences of others. We should observe the rules of the road. While moving on city roads, we should not press our individual liberty too far and thus injure the individual liberty of others. When the policeman in a crowded area stands in the middle of the road and controls the traffic, he is not putting a curb on our liberty; on the other hand, he ensures it. While driving on roads, we should have some consideration for the rights of others. If we have a right to drive at a very fast speed on the road , others have the right to drive safely on the road. Our desire to be fast on the road should not curb the right of others to drive safely. Safety on the road must be our motto while driving . Because of widespread corruption in India, you can get a driving license by greasing the palm of the transport officials.

 In countries like America , Canada and U.A.E. , people requiring driving licenses , are required to take their driving test three or four times . We never hear of anyone failing in their driving test in India. You can get a driving license in India without any evidence of driving ability. Indian car drivers, truck and bus drivers are indifferent to road safety. People in India drive as if there is no one else on the roads / streets. We do not believe in the right of way we do not think that road safety is our problem if we scrape another car. We do not even believe it is an issue if we start reversing down a national highway. Road safety is someone else's problem.

All we need to do is to steer. And obstacles will remove themes magically. Some car drivers feel offended upon realizing that there are other cars on road as well. They then show their temper by trying to mow you down with a full frontal attack. Truck drivers and bus drivers belong to this category. It is not at all surprising, that India registers the highest number of deaths in the world, around 105000 from road accidents. The reason for this is poor infrastructure and dangerous driving, hub besides; our roads are filled with pot holes. It may be a kind of sweeping, statement to say that Indian drivers do not have consideration for others. They do not think of the greater good of society.
